I, for one, was very disappointed in the Twilight movie. The character developement wasn’t there and A LOT of crucial moments were left out of the movie that was apparent in the book. The book was by far much better than the movie could have ever hoped to be.

As Twilight series fans look forward to seeing Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner reprise their roles as Edward Cullen, Bella Swan, and Jacob Black in New Moon this November. Many of them, declaring their slight disappointment with the amount of the book that was left out of the first film, have declared those scenes that are crucial and must be included in New Moon (for that list, see here).

Others, however, say that the list is pointless – that Twilight fans should accept the fact that New Moon simply cannot be exactly like the book. To the chagrin of many, these folks say that they think New Moon, the film, may differ significantly from the book, and that this should be okay.

Critics of this viewpoint state that this is unfair to the millions that read and loved New Moon, and that it is indeed very possible to bring a faithful adaptation of the book to the big screen.

The third film in the series, “Eclipse,” will arrive on June 30, 2010, Summit Entertainment confirmed toAccess Hollywood. Sequel “New Moon” is due November 20 of this year.

Moreover, the series now has a name; based on the beloved novels of author Stephenie Meyer, the series has been officially named “The Twilight Saga.”

Chris Weitz will not direct the third film in the Twilight series, Eclipse, a source close to the production tells EW.com exclusively. Because New Moon, which Weitz is helming, and Eclipse are due to be released so close together (on Nov. 20, 2009, and June 30, 2010, respectively), Weitz will be in post-production on New Moon at the same time that Eclipse will be shooting. That said, the source confirms a report that the movies will not be shot simultaneously or back-to-back; there will be a brief gap between the production of both films

One thing’s for sure: Together, they could rule the teenage girl world.

The Jonas Brothers talked to MTV about being involved in the “New Moon” soundtrack. They’d even love to write a song especially for the new film.

“The movie was obviously a huge success, and if they asked us to be a part of [the sequel], that would be great,” Nick Jonas said.

“It would be really cool.” Joe and Kevin agreed: “That would be really cool”

Settle down, dudes. Before they write a song for “New Moon,” they’d have to actually see “Twilight.”

“I haven’t seen it,” Joe admitted. “But I have heard it’s a great movie.” Kevin added that they often get advance DVDs and “watch them on plane rides.”

According to the JoBros, “Twilight” is not just for girls.

Joe admires vampire Edward Cullen’s strength. “He’s a vampire, but he’s pretty strong and stuff.”

Turns out the Jonas Brothers got pretty close to the L.A. “Twilight” premiere. They’d been invited, but got stuck working on their TV show all day. On the way to their hotel, the tired lads stopped to pick up a pizza in Westwood.

Surprise. The pizza place they ordered from just happened to be across the street from the premiere. “And so, we come up driving, and didn’t realize that it was the ‘Twilight’ premiere,” Kevin said. “It was one of those comical moments that was really funny for us.”

“Twilight” fans waiting to read Stephanie Meyer’s latest vampire novel had better not hold their breath: the author is still pouting about her unfinished manuscript being leaked online — and hasn’t touched the book since.

“I feel too sad about what has happened to continue working on ‘Midnight Sun,’ so it is on hold indefinitely,” Meyer wrote on her Web site, stephaniemeyer.com. However, she posted the incomplete draft on her own site, reasoning, “I’d rather my fans not read this version … the writing is messy and flawed and full of mistakes. But how do I comment on this violation without driving more people to look for the illegal posting?”

To the chagrin of “Twilight” followers, Meyer has no further plans to resurrect the would-be juicy read. “Midnight Sun,” the fifth tome in the series, was being written from bloodsucking heartthrob Edward Cullen’s point of view.

“Nothing’s changed,” a rep for the author confirms to us. “Stephenie has no plans to move forward with ‘Midnight Sun’ at this time.”

But Meyer fanatics can anticipate an upcoming novel. “Stephenie is working on something else at the moment,” the flack reveals. “But she hasn’t announced it yet. It isn’t ‘Twilight’-related. When she’s ready to reveal it, she will. This has been an intense three years for her, and currently she’s just focusing on being a writer.”

As for how Meyer plans to protect her works in the future, her spokesperson says, “She’ll just have to be very selective about where she sends her manuscripts.”

While Edward Cullen may not get his time to shine in print, the man who portrays him on screen — British hottie Robert Pattinson — isn’t relying on Meyer’s writing skills for his income. R-Patz is taking on the role of a young Salvador Dali in “Little Ashes,” which comes complete with some steamy male-on-male scenes.

The film, which will hit theaters in March, is rated R for “sexual content, language and a brief disturbing image.”

The woman who wrote the comedic vampire books that inspired the HBO series True Blood is author Charlaine Harris. In what will be her only appearance in support of the reissue of her book Living Dead in Dallas, the second Sookie Stackhouse title, she’s set to speak at the Central Branch of the Houston Public Library tomorrow.

The book is named Living Dead in Dallas, so a stop in the Big D would seem a natural, but Harris chose to come to Houston instead and she talked to Hair Balls about why. “My favorite book store in America is in Houston, Murder by the Book on Bissonnet. The owners and staff of MBTB supported me when there was no career to support, starting twenty-plus years ago. So if I sign anywhere for a book, it’ll be in Houston.”

Set in the Louisiana town of Beau Temps, True Blood, like the book series it’s based on, centers on a telepathic waitress named Sookie Stackhouse and her vampire boyfriend, Bill. Harris has had limited involvement in the production of True Blood, but she’s been happy with the show’s adaptation of her novels. “I have no input into show, other than the fact that I provided the basic schematic in the form of the Sookie novels. In return, Alan doesn’t tell me how to write my books. We’re each doing what we do best,” she says. “I’ve never been a control freak and when you ally with a great talent like [series creator] Alan Ball, you have to let go and see what happens. That’s why I accepted his offer over the others on the table. I’m fascinated with the choices Alan and the other writers are making.”

As with many other vampire novels, Harris’s books use the undead as a metaphor for “otherness,” exemplifying racism, homophobia and class delineations. Harris says that while she does have those issues in mind, mostly she just wants to entertain. “Sure I have an agenda. But my main goal is to entertain the reader, to give the reader a little vacation.”

So what’s next for Sookie? Harris won’t say much, except, “The next book is Dead and Gone. It comes out in May. Sookie is in Bon Temps for this one, and it has some pretty grim action in it.”

Charlaine Harris appears at 7 p.m. Central Library, 500 McKinney. For information, call 832-393-1313 or visit www.houstonlibrary.org. Free.

Summit Entertainment has tentatively slated Nov. 20, 2009, as the release date for New Moon, the Twilight sequel, which means any director who signs on to replace Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke has to be in Vancouver by Dec. 15 to begin 12 weeks of preproduction before a mid-March start date. Reports have speculated that Hardwicke was fired for being difficult on set, but sources close to her suggest Summit’s aggressive production schedule turned her off. “She’d love to do the sequel if she could do it better than Twilight,” says one. “It became clear that Summit didn’t have those same priorities.”

Indeed, at press time the second movie appeared to have little more than a rough first-draft working script. As Summit’s production president Erik Feig told EW during Twilight’s record-busting first weekend, “There is that first…script. All the finesse that turns a screenplay into a movie hasn’t happened yet.” Two weeks later, Summit is saying it’s happy with screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg’s progress.

Another of Hardwicke’s primary concerns was that hunky vampire Edward remains MIA throughout New Moon’s middle portion. In her own opening-weekend interview, she told EW, “You have to get the chemistry as strong between Jacob and Bella as it was between Bella and Edward. You also have to do some thing with that arc: She’s in love with somebody, he disappears, she falls in love with someone else, and the first guy comes back. Movies like Pearl Harbor have tried it. It absolutely didn’t work.”

With or without Hardwicke, Summit faces other snags. Two sources tell EW the studio doesn’t want to rehire baby-faced Taylor Lautner (pictured) as Jacob, though Lautner’s agent has apparently reached out to the imaging company behind The Curious Case of Benjamin Button in an attempt to demonstrate to Summit how a digitally bulked-up Lautner could work. (Summit says it won’t make a decision until a new filmmaker is on board.) There’s also the matter of finding a cast of Native American actors to play Jacob’s werewolf clan — a difficult challenge Hardwicke was also faced with before settling on Lautner, who isn’t completely Native American. And with a slightly increased budget of $50 million — much of which is assumed will go to leads asking for heftier paydays, location shoots in Italy, and ramped-up F/X — Summit will have to scrimp somewhere.

So what director would want to take on such a big headache? Well, at press time, an offer was out to Chris Weitz (The Golden Compass), who put Summit on the map years ago when its foreign sales operation made tons of cash off of his first film, American Pie. (One source says Weitz has already had conversations with below-the-line crew for New Moon.) “We are in a recession,” reminds one Hollywood insider. “It’s a hit franchise. Whoever steps into it is guaranteed a $100 million gross. Everyone wants this movie.” Adds an exec at another studio, “You’d have to have a very high standard for art, hate the movie business, and hate money to walk off this sequel.”
